The Cape Atlantic Conservation District is proud to support local farmers by offering no-cost Animal Waste Management Plans as part of our mission to promote sustainable agriculture and environmental protection across the region.
What Is an Animal Waste Management Plan?
Animal Waste Management Plans are required by New Jersey state law for any farm housing more than 8 animal units—that’s 8,000 pounds of live animals. These plans outline how manure will be stored, handled, and applied to minimize runoff and protect water quality. They are essential for:
- Preventing environmental degradation
- Complying with state agricultural regulations
- Improving your farm’s long-term sustainability
How We Help
Thanks to our partnership with the New Jersey Department of Agriculture, Cape Atlantic Conservation District offers both technical and financial assistance to help farmers meet these important standards. If you’re creating a new plan or updating an existing one, we’ll do the work for you—at no cost.
Financial Support Available
In addition to planning assistance, we can help eligible farms access funding to implement best management practices (BMPs) that improve animal waste handling and storage. Examples of BMPs include:
- Exclusionary fencing
- Filter strips and buffer zones
- Pasture management improvements
These improvements are tailored to each farm’s unique layout and operation. We’re here to support South Jersey’s farming community every step of the way.
